Maghull league's display of bowling results

Here at maghullbowlingleague.org.uk we have an unmatched display of results data from a crown green bowling league. All the information you could ask for is shown in an uncluttered format.
  • League Tables show all the information used in producing it, both home and away details.
  • All recent scores in each division are displayed smartly together in 1 window for quick viewing.
  • Divisional statistics show the complete (home and away) records of the leading 50 players.
  • Unique rating system indicates the best players by taking not only chalks gained into account but also the ability of the opponent. Beating better players increases the rating by a larger amount.
  • Team points records of all matches played during the season are displayed. All the points gained by teams in forming their league position are displayed for checking.
  • All the above data is shown on 1 webpage (per division) in separate sections which can be expanded into view or hidden at will. No hunting around a website for the different pages.
Newly added to the site in 2011 is a list of all the registered players in the each team. This also uses expandable and collapsable sections to show all the names on one webpage (about 750 names). The webpage is produced from a single list of names by a single mouse click. And it means only 1 file has to be uploaded to the website server. This is a tad better than one other system which can leave a secretary having to upload 40 or more files.

The site also includes a comprehensive list of bowling greeen locations for S.W. Lancashire, N. Merseyside, Sefton and Liverpool. The items displayed on this page are club addresses (including postcodes) and UK map co-ordinates (All numeric not grid letters)

How these pages are produced

Although the data pages appear complex, scores on match cards are turned into the webpages on this site as fast as it is possible to be.

Using my own program in Microsoft Excel, which selects names by a single keystroke, it takes just over a minute to digitally capture a 10 game match from a results card. To illustrate this with an example. A person named J.Smith would be selected by pressing the S key, if he was the only person in his team starting with S, hitting the return key moves the process to the next name.

After enterring all the scores, everything is completely automated and instantly produced at the click of a mouse. The system is not complicated by having separate home and away records, it is all taken care of by the programming software.
